No, spring airsoft guns need nothing but you to make it work. Spring guns use a cocking lever or similar to set the spring and firing system. A Hop-Up makes it so that when a BB is fired from the airsoft gun using a burst of compressed air, a small and grippy rubber pad rubs against the top of the BB. This has the effect of adding a backspin to the round projectile. Adding a backspin to any ball whilst flying through the air adds lift and therefore increases its range. Some spring airsoft rifles include adjustable Hop-Ups, but most have fixed or even none. If your spring rifle is low FPS then a Hop-Up is not normally needed.
