The RPK (Ruchnoy Pulemyot Kalashnikova, “Kalashnikov hand-held machine gun”) is a 7.62 light machine gun of Soviet build, developed by Mikhail Kalashnikov in the late 1950s. It was created as part of a program to standardize the small arms inventory of the Soviet Army. It replaced the 7.62 RPD light machine gun.
