ABOUT AIRSOFT RIFLES
The following info is provided as a guide, and we hope it will help you choose the right Airsoft Rifle from the many outstanding Airsoft Guns and BB Guns available on our website and in-store.
SPRING AIRSOFT RIFLES
Spring-powered Airsoft Rifles are a type of Airsoft Rifle that uses a manually compressed spring to propel plastic BBs. These rifles are typically single-shot, requiring the user to manually cock the spring each time they want to fire a BB. When the spring is compressed and released, it drives a piston forward, which in turn propels the BB out of the barrel. These Airsoft Rifles are often considered beginner-friendly due to their simplicity and reliability. They don’t require batteries or Gas/CO2 to operate, making them cost-effective and low maintenance.
ELECTRIC AIRSOFT RIFLES
Electric-Powered Airsoft Rifles, often referred to as AEGs (Automatic Electric Guns), are a type of Airsoft Rifles powered by an electric motor and typically use a rechargeable battery to operate. AEGs are popular among airsoft players due to their semi-automatic or fully automatic firing capabilities, high rate of fire, and consistent performance. Inside an AEG, there’s an electric motor that drives a gearbox containing gears and a piston assembly. When the trigger is pulled, it completes an electrical circuit, causing the motor to turn. The motor then rotates the gears, which in turn compress a spring and propel the piston forward. The piston’s movement compresses air, which propels the BB out of the barrel. AEGs offer versatility, as many models allow for customisation and upgrades to enhance performance.
GAS AIRSOFT RIFLES
Gas or CO2-powered airsoft rifles are a type of Airsoft Rifle powered by compressed gas, typically either Propane, Green Gas, or CO2 (carbon dioxide). These Airsoft Rifles use compressed Gas to propel plastic BBs. There are two main types of gas-powered rifles: Gas Blowback (GBB) Rifles and Non-blowback Rifles. Both types of gas-powered Airsoft Guns offer advantages, such as consistent performance across various temperatures and environments. However, they do require a supply of gas cartridges or gas cans for operation, which can add to the ongoing cost of using these rifles.
CAN I BUY AN AIRSOFT RIFLE IF I AM UNDER 18?
Sorry, but the minimum age to purchase any Airsoft Rifle colour is 18 years. However, there is no age restriction on owning or operating an Airsoft Rifle. It is within the law for a person who is 18 years or over to purchase a two-tone (non-black/tan/gold/silver) Airsoft Rifle or Pistol and gift it to a person who is under the age of 18 years to own and operate. So, a parent can buy a two-tone Airsoft Rifle or BB Gun and give it to their child to use or keep, regardless of age. We recommend that an adult supervise persons under 14.
WHAT DEFENCE DO I NEED TO BUY: BLACK, TAN, GOLD OR SILVER AIRSOFT RIFLE?
Since October 2007, you can only buy a realistic imitation firearm (one that looks like a real rifle, i.e. black, tan, gold, silver) if you meet one of the following conditions: You have a current UKARA membership, You have a current UKAPA membership, You are a member of a fully insured skirmish site, You are a member of a properly insured historical re-enactment group or society, You are a film, television or theatre production company, You are (or are acting on behalf of) a museum, You are a Crown Servant in pursuance of your Crown duties. You will be required to select one of the above at checkout, plus supply relevant information, such as a membership number or documentation, to confirm you meet the criteria. If you cannot meet any of these criteria, you can still buy an imitation firearm, one whose principal colour is significantly different from that of a real firearm, i.e. blue, orange, red or green.
